We are transforming women's health. For far too long, the medical establishment has maintained a one-size-fits-all mentality and tolerated problematic implants/devices that simply do not work well for everyone all the time. With one-third of women around the world (>65 yrs. of age) suffering from UI issues -- and no pharmacological treatment whatsoever available to aid them -- surgical implants are their only go-to option, and unfortunately a less than perfect option. We aim to change that, greatly improving such implants along with the procedures associated with effectively and holistically treating these women.
Deep-seated cultural stigmas and barriers have long stifled innovation across a range of women’s health issues. Urinary incontinence (“UI”) is among the largest of these under-served categories. While UI affects almost a third of all women worldwide, two-thirds of the cases remain undiagnosed. Currently, there are no pharmacologic agents to treat UI, leaving risky, frequently problematic surgical interventions and device implantations. SmartWeave is on a mission to transform female UI.
Medical Implant Expertise
SmartWeave is using the urology expertise and innovation commercialization know-how of its co-founders – along with its extended Clinical Innovation Team (100+ years research/clinical experience) -- to realize medical devices that improve the outcomes of urological mesh implants and related surgical procedures. The initial product that SmartWeave is developing is focused on preventing scarring, bleeding, and tissue damage that often result from UI surgical interventions. Following this evolution, we expect our innovations will change the trajectory of how we treat and manage surgical mesh implants in categories ranging from hernia repair to orthopedic and even neural implants.
We have secured multiple US patents with several more on the way for our unique implants, their novel designs, and related surgical methods. Our team is comprised of world-class urology surgeons and commercialization experts who have received significant accolades for medical excellence and who have scaled numerous IP-centric products and portfolios to large valuations. We have enlisted key partnerships, including leading medical device accelerators and prototyping development fabricators. We are on a fast-moving trajectory to secure robust financial sponsorship, grow the development team, establish complete pre-clinical studies, gain regulatory clearances, and drive a market roll-out.
